THE BIG DESIGN MARKET 2016: VOLUNTEER JOB DESCRIPTION  

Position: Volunteer Event Crew  

Event Dates:
Bump in: Wednesday 23rd - Thursday 24th November 2016
Volunteer Briefing: Thursday 24th November 2016 @ 6.00pm
Event: Friday 25th - Sunday 27th November 2016
Bump out: Sunday 27th November 2016  

N.B. Volunteers may be required for some or all of the above dates depending on tasks assigned to them and their availability.

Reporting to: Production Manager and Production Coordinator  

Remuneration:
This is an un-paid, volunteer position. Meal vouchers will be provided if working a shift longer than 4 hours.
We will provide you with a staff T-shirt to wear for the duration of your shifts.
You will receive 2 free entry passes giving you the opportunity to attend the event with a friend or family member on a day you are not working.  

Event Description:
After four successful years in Melbourne, The Big Design Market will make its highly anticipated debut in Sydney over the 25th - 27th November 2016. The Big Design Market offers shoppers a curated line-up of the best local and international design across homewares, textiles, fashion, furniture, lighting, stationery, lifestyle & kids products. Visitors can enjoy 3 huge days of Christmas shopping along with creative workshops, our designer showbags, delicious food and drink from local taste-makers, free kids activities and much more!  

Key responsibilities and attributes:
- Be reliable (must show up for all contracted shifts)
- Be well presented and take pride in your appearance
- Have a friendly, confident manner when interacting with the public
- Have the ability to work un-supervised on tasks once training has been provided
- Ensure visitor or stallholder questions that volunteers have not been briefed on are referred to the Production Manager (this ensures accurate information is provided)  

Types of tasks that may be requested of volunteers:
Loading & un-loading of vehicles; Assist with monitoring stallholder bump in; Assist with the bump in of large scale installations; Manage visitor pass-outs at exits; Oversee visitors entering the building have paid the entry fee; Keep feature areas such as children's workshops and the mother's room tidy and well stocked; Assist with moving furniture into position; Assist with packing and sales of showbags; Assist on the information desk; Assist with removing wall panels post event.  

Benefits:
This volunteer role provides an opportunity to gain entry-level experience in the events industry where you will be exposed to how a large-scale event is executed, including bump-in and bump-out. We are happy to provide references to future employers, should the successful candidate meet the requirements of the role.
