We are the only organisation that works across every area of every cancer, conducting and funding world ‘class research that underpins our work across the cancer journey, preventing cancer, supporting people as they navigate the cancer journey and advocating to ensure that governments take action on.

The health promotion and event support volunteer will work across a range of health promotion, prevention, advocacy and supportive services. The role is to ensure the community is educated in prevention programs and ways we can reduce the risk of developing cancer. Additionally the health promotion volunteer will assist in disseminating key messages around supportive services CCNSW offers regionally. This will be achieved through attending expos, sharing information and resources and also high level stake holder engagement.

Supporting the Community Programs Coordinator across the Illawarra you will: 

  • Lead the Cancer Council Health Hub at local Relay For Life event
  • Support and promote Cancer Council's key lifestyle messages at local fundraising events
  • Assist with communications regarding prevention and support programs
  • Establish and work with health professionals, schools, clubs, and other community stakeholders
  • Provide general administration assistance to Community Programs Coordinator

Our ideal volunteer will:

  • Be outgoing, friendly and have strong literacy skills
  • Have experience organising meetings, workshops, events etc.
  • Have good organisational, planning and record keeping abilities
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Attention to detail
  • Excellent Problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to manage a number of conflicting projects
  • Have a passion for health and a desire to make a difference
  • Currently pursuing / completed a Bachelor's degree in Public Health or related field
  • Be available 1 day a week
