If you are an art student, you will know that sometimes, the hardest thing is not the subjects that you have to research and memorise but the one that needs you to be creative. It is tricky to be creative though. You can’t finish an art project without being creative. But if you force yourself to be creative, it will backfire on you.
It is hard to have creativity flow inside you. Nevertheless, there are several tips that you can try to beat creative slump and find inspiration for anytime you need to be creative, follow those tips below.
Take a walk in the park, go to the beach or go on a hiking trail towards the forest. All of these activities can help you find your inspirations. You can also try exploring your nearby neighbourhood as well. If you are lucky, you might find something inspirational. If you don’t, your brain still is stimulated and relaxed, helping you to find your creativity soon.
Remember to take a few pictures along with you when you go out. Looking at these pictures can surely help you to have some creative ideas.
Meditate and Avoid being Too Stressed
As I mentioned above, when you force yourself to be creative, it will not end well for you. It is because when you are stressed, it can surely block your creativity. Hence, you should avoid being too stressed at all cost.
There are several things that you can try to avoid stress. Taking a walk outside is one of the things that you can do. Another effective method you can try is meditating. It is simple to do so. First, find yourself a quiet place and start taking deep breaths. Relax your mind. If you feel like that you can’t focus on mediating, turn on some white noise or listen to the sounds of nature.
You don’t have to spend a long time mediating, just around 5 to 10 minutes. Anytime you feel tired or stressed, mediating will help to give you a new and fresh mind.
Relax by Reading A Book, Look at Pictures or Watch a TED Video
There are several things that you can do to relax as well including reading a book, looking at pictures or watching TED videos. These activities don’t only help you to relax but they also help to beat creative slump. For example, reading a book is helpful when a writer is stuck on new and creative ideas. It might help to spark an idea on your mind- whether it is about a new plot or a new style. The link between reading book and finding inspiration is not based on non-fiction idea. In fact, there is a study done by the professor Maja Djikic of the University of Toronto which shows that frequent readers of books about fiction have better creativity. They also have better judgment and critical thinking.
Or if you are stuck in general, browse among a few hundreds of TED videos to see the ones of your topic or of anything that interests you. If you don’t know about TED talks videos, they are series of talks from inspirational key people from different fields. These people come to conference to share their ideas. These ideas are new, creative and outstanding in their fields. You can explore ideas in various topics including technology, art, design and social problems. There are also videos on enhancing your soft skills which are surely worth your time watching them as well.
Use A Creative Vision Board
Instead of having a notebook which you write your ideas down, you can create a vision board instead. This board will contain information about your current project, anything that inspires you and anything that comes into your mind. You can colour-code these ideas to make it look fun and interesting just by looking at the vision board.
Talk To People
Talking to people is also a good idea to beat creative slump and find your inspiration, especially when you seem to run out of ideas. Talking to your friends as well as your family members can spark a new idea in your mind when other people share different thoughts. Also, even if they don’t help you much with finding new and creative ideas, they will surely help you relaxed. And as a result, help you to find your creativity back.
Try Something New
Finally, you can try something new, which you have never done before. It is proved that when you do something new, your brain will be stimulated and you will be able to come up with new ideas. Do things differently and you will be able to see at various perspectives for you to generate your new ideas.
You can take part in new sports including running, playing tennis or swimming. Or try a new way to walk from your school to your home.
There are several things that you can try when you encounter creative slump. Don’t just stay in one place and force yourself to be creative. Instead, try to go outside and enjoy the nature. Let your mind as much relaxing as possible by mediating, reading a book or looking at pictures. You can also find some sources of inspiration such as TED videos. Other things including creating a vision board, talking to people and trying doing something new will also help you to be more creative.
