The Program
MATES is a program in which Red Cross volunteers assist people who are socially isolated to re-connect with their community. A volunteer is matched with a participant for social visits in their home once a week or fortnight with the aim of expanding the participant's social networks, which can improve their self-esteem, quality of life and well-being. Time commitment varies depending on activities.
The Opportunity
This program will provide you with an opportunity to undertake activities such as listening to music together, playing cards or board games, reminiscing or simply having a chat. It can also include outings such as chatting at a café, going for walks, going to a museum or art gallery or joining an interest group or club
The Impact
As a Social Support volunteer you will be involved in improving the well being of those experiencing extreme vulnerability. Red Cross will ensure you have training, ongoing support and access to other opportunities within the World's largest humanitarian network.
