This position is located in Mount Gambier.

The Child and Youth Worker is a role within OoHC Directorate: Residential Care Services and is accountable to the Supervisor / Senior Child and Youth Worker for:
  • developing the social and living skills of children and young people in residential care to facilitate their effective transition into the community and reunification or reconnection with their families.
  • assessing and responding to the individual needs of children and young people in care and increasing the chances of successful intervention.
  • supporting Child and Youth Support Workers in delivering quality outcomes for children and young people in care.
  • providing primary care for Residential Care residents including behavioural control, household duties and transportation of children and young people to school, activities and appointments.
  • working with children and young people and external professionals to contribute to the delivery of programs and services, which facilitate the caring and development of children and young people.
  • maintaining an appropriate level of safety and supervision of children and young people in the security of residential care facilities

Special Conditions:
  • The successful applicant is required to gain a Department for Communities and Social Inclusion (DCSI) Child Related Employment Screening prior to being employed which is required to be renewed every three years before expiry.
  • The incumbent may be assigned to another location at this remuneration level or its equivalent and the work may involve the management of children within various age groups.
  • A current Provide First Aid Certificate is essential.
  • Required to undertake shift work over 24 hours on a rostered basis including weekend and Public Holidays. Penalty rates apply for weekend, public holiday and shift work.
  • The successful candidate is required to hold a current South Australian driver's licence (P2 or above) and be able and willing to drive in the course of the duties of the role.
  • Australian residency or current work permit is required (responsibility of applicant to provide evidence of a current work permit).

There are multiple ongoing, temporary/term and casual roles available. Applications are being sought for appointment or inclusion into a pool. The pool will remain open for 12 months
