The Department of Education is seeking an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person to fill the position of Director, Attendance and Engagement Programs in its First Nations Strategy and Partnerships Division. Attendance andEngagement Programs are delivered by non-government organisations and support students to attend school, engage in learning and complete Year 12. This position is offered on a full-time basis.

Your role:

The Director will lead a team to:

  • Engage with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and their families , communities and schools to identify Attendance and Engagement Programs that will effectively supports
  • Undertake procurement processes to engage NGOs to deliver Attendance and Engagement Program
  • Manage contracts and service agreements with providers
  • Monitor the effectiveness of Attendance and Engagement programs to ensure improved educational outcomes and return on investment
  • Develop and implement project plans to expand Attendance and Engagement Programs;
  • Provide advice to senior executives and government on Attendance and Engagement programs, funding and effectiveness.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide high-level strategic advice and expert analysis to the Minister, Director-General and Deputy Director-General on programs and initiatives which support First Nations students to realise their full potential.
  • Develop and support effective implementation of culturally capable programs and initiatives including through co-design.
  • Apply project and program management expertise programs and initiatives.
  • Ensure the Department's programs initiatives are supported with good project governance, which involves working with the overarching structure, processes and procedures to accomplish program objectives, which include measures of success and deliverables and operate within the department's risk appetite.
  • Represent the department in strategic forums that are focused on delivery of programs and initiatives to support First Nations students.
  • Work in collaboration with regions, including Executive-Director Regional Operations, Director Programs and Partnerships to drive school improvement for First Nations students.
  • Influence strategically by identifying workforce planning, strategic planning and capability development priorities to ensure that program deliverables, time and budgetary requirements are met.
  • Lead, manage and develop a team of professional staff to deliver outcomes consistent with organisational objectives.
