The Role

An opportunity has become available for a Consultant Psychiatrist to join a large country health service in Western Australia. The successful applicant will be responsible for delivering quality mental health services across inpatient and outpatient settings to adult patients aged 18-65 years. Duties associated with this role include providing clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment and care; supervising trainee psychiatrists and medical officers; acting in a liaison capacity to other hospital units, GP's and community-based service providers; participating in quality improvement activities and taking part in research and ongoing professional development.

Essential Requirements

  • Eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia
  • Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists or approved equivalent qualification

The Health Service

This position is associated with a major hospital in the region. The hospital has a 24-hour emergency care department with a wide range of support services including a surgical centre, psychiatric unit, cancer centre, geriatric assessment unit, renal dialysis unit, obstetric services, paediatric services and a rehabilitation unit. Mental health facilities include a 16-bed inpatient unit providing in-hospital treatment and care for people experiencing short term mental illness, and community mental health care across the region. Services include assessment, diagnosis, treatment, respite care, support services, care at home, self-care training and counselling for families and carers.

The Location

This position is situated in a port city at the southern tip of Western Australia. The area is known for its beaches, nature reserves and migrating whales. This is a thriving seaside destination with a wide array of activities to do including boating, fishing, water sports and walking trails. The area is rich in history and is home to elegant historic buildings, a wharf district and beautiful scenic coastline.
