Ballarat Health Services (BHS) is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Director Health, Safety and Wellbeing for a 10 month fixed term contract arrangement. In addition to managing the day to day operations of the Health, Safety & Wellbeing (HS&W) Department, the Director Health, Safety & Wellbeing is responsible for the implementation of the organisational health and safety management system. The HS&W Department is responsible for general occupational health and safety, injury management and WorkCover, core training programs for safe patient handling & mobility, management of clinical aggression and workplace conduct face to face training.

There is a strong staff health and wellbeing focus, whereby this role is pivotal in the key stakeholder group for development of strategy and implementation planning. This focus must be both data and evidence base driven to best inform the priorities and strategic direction of BHS. BHS offers a range of clinical and non-clinical services that present many and varying risks. This is an exciting opportunity for the right incumbent to work in a very diverse and complex industry pertaining to health, safety and wellbeing needs.

Candidates should possess:
  • Tertiary qualifications in an Occupational Health and Safety related discipline;
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in a senior health, safety and wellbeing position of a large, or multifaceted organisation;
  • Proven experience in developing and delivering systems to improve staff health, safety and wellbeing;
  • Demonstrated experience in building and managing positive and productive relationships at all levels of an organisation;
  • Experience measuring and reporting on safety programs, rehabilitation and wellbeing using both lead and lag indicators;
  • High level analytical, conceptual and strategic capabilities as well as the ability to problem solve while ensuring legislative compliance;
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, develop and coach team members and ensure a continuous improvement culture.
