The program

Key outcomes of the Humanitarian Settlement Program are increased social cohesion, community connectedness and positive settlement experiences for refugees. Volunteers play an important role in the success of the program, as their participation will mean refugees get the extra support they need in completing every day things such as shopping, reading important mail, English language and connecting with the community.
The opportunity
The purpose of a Community Organiser Volunteer is to recruit and coordinate others to form an active volunteer team which can then provide practical support to newly arrived refugees in the community. This role is a fantastic opportunity to develop key leadership skills, make a tangible contribution, engage in supporting vulnerable people as well as contributing to your local community.
Community organisers are closely linked with Red Cross case workers who are responsible for the client's overall settlement and provide resources and advice to the local volunteer team. This role will also have access to extensive training and development opportunities and a network of other passionate Red Cross volunteers.
The impact

Red Cross volunteers are a vital connection between refugees and their new communities. Community Organiser volunteers are key to the success of the Humanitarian Settlement Program. Volunteers will be supported to make a meaningful contribution in their local communities, as well as taking part in creating a friendly and welcoming Australia.
