Situated within the College of Science, Engineering and Health, the School of Aerospace, Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering is one of the largest and most progressive engineering schools in Australia. The School is recognised internationally for excellence in engineering education and high impact research, with engineering research ranked above world standard across all associated disciplines of the School and the top 51 – 100 in the world (QS, 2014). Aerospace engineering research is ranked in the top 3 in the country (Excellence in Research for Australia, ERA). The School currently requires a Technical Officer to provide technical advice and assistance to staff and students in mechanical testing and composites related work. The Technical Officer is responsible for supporting the School's teaching, research and commercial activities and ensuring that the School's laboratory and workshop facilities are maintained and developed to the highest standards, and comply with the School's OH&S requirements. The position is also required to keep abreast of changes within the School (especially relevant to technology), sustain a quality environment and ensure that all staff and students comply with Occupational Health & Safety Legislation. The successful candidate will have a relevant trade qualification, relevant work experience and advanced problem solving/testing skills. You will have knowledge and experience in an engineering field particularly within a laboratory and workshop environment in order to support the School's teaching programs and research activities. To be considered for this opportunity, you must also possess: * A sound knowledge of the requirements of engineering education laboratories, in material/chemical testing, and composites related work. * Proven experience in design of experimental student and staff projects, education and research activities relating to material/chemical or thermodynamic testing. * Good knowledge of engineering education laboratories and workshops, including chemical handling and storage and OH&S documentation requirements.
