Third Sector (thirdsector.com.au) is a dynamic and trusted source of news and opinion for Australia’s not-for-profit and charity sector. 

We strive to deliver high-level content focusing on what leaders in the NFP sector need to know to accelerate their career, business, and the sector as a whole.

We are currently seeking a journalism student to help out with daily editorial tasks during the month of September.

Main tasks and benefits:

  • Mentoring and training in newswriting
  • Mentoring and training in sourcing news
  • Mentoring and training in finding and contacting experts for interviews
  • Interviewing and writing articles with own byline and the opportunity to develop a portfolio
  • Feedback on work before it’s published
  • Contacting and liaising with PR and media contacts
  • Mentoring and training in posting for social media
  • Access to and training in Google analytics
  • Access to and training in WordPress
  • Publishing to website (using WordPress)
  • Image sourcing
  • Training in newsletter creation, including access and training in Active Campaign
  • A written letter of reference

Essential/ desirable criteria:

Ideally looking for a journalism student (or similar) who has some experience in news writing (professional experience not required).

Desired skillset:

  • Experience in sourcing news and content
  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines and juggle multiple tasks
  • Experience working with CMS
  • The ability to work independently
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail

Work hours:

The internship is available between 3-28 September with the possibility to extend in order for the student to reach 100 hours of intern experience.

Monday-Friday 8.30am-5.00pm (Flexible to accommodate for student’s uni schedule)

We’re based at Town Hall, Sydney CBD
